15 November 12pm - Macquarie Room
2017 marks the centenary of the 3rd Battle of the Ypres (more commonly known as the Battle of Passchendaele) which for many, together with The Somme, epitomises the First World War. It was a major campaign fought by the Allies with the battle raging on the Western Front from July to November 1917, for control of the ridges south and east of Ypres. We welcome back Geoff Pearson, a Vietnam Veteran who spoke so movingly last year about Armistice Day, to tell us about this battle.
Geoff was conscripted in 1967 and served in the 5th Royal Australian Regiment -as a machine gunner in 'C' Company on their second tour, carrying out 18 operations from February 1969 to February 1970. He lost many mates an since then, while returning to a business career has kept their memory alive, service as Secretary of their Association for over 20 years.
