Join us at the Royal Automobile Club for a live Jazz performance by Sydney Conservatorium’s musician’s Nicky Crayson & Felix Bornholdt.

Since emerging in the United States in the early years of the 20th Century, jazz has consistently drawn spectators from all walks of life, enjoying a vast following across the globe. Jazz is a combination of improvisation, swing and many other elements. The musical style is unique and fused with many different genres.

With a sweeping, effortless four-octave range, Nicky Crayson’s voice and musicianship make an instant impression. Nicky began her career as a teenager and soon found herself working at venues like The Basement (with Galapagos Duck), or the Hilton Hotel, where Tony Bennett while touring Australia, heard her and encouraged her to continue singing jazz.

Felix is a Sydney-based pianist from New Zealand. While still in high school he was the recipient of a number of awards including Most Outstanding Pianist and the Judges Special Commendation award at both the Manawatu Jazz Festival and Wellington International Jazz Festival, judged by trumpet player Alex Sipiagin and saxophonist Bob Shephard. In 2013, Bornholdt was asked to perform a two-hour solo set on the Michael Parakowhai piano, New Zealand’s entry in the 2012 Venice Biennale. In 2014, under encouragement from pianist Mike Nock, Felix moved from Wellington to Australia to study Jazz Piano at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music.
