Tasting/Tour – ‘Rounding Both Capes’
In the comforts of the Vintage Room, our final tasting/tour for 2017, we’ve tasted our way through 13 wines from South Africa and South America. The wines were served in brackets of four matched to some wonderful food.
My favourites were the 2012 Marichal Chardonnay from Uruguay served with spanner crab salad, and the South African 2015 Boekenhoutskloof ‘Chocolate Box’ red blend served with the braised beef cheek. The 2013 Catena Zapata Alta Malbec from Argentina served with some Taleggio cheese was the perfect way to finish the night.
There’ll be more tasting/tours next year, so watch this space.
Black Tie Henschke Dinner – Friday 24 November
Corks ‘n’ Forks Black Tie (optional) Henschke Dinner is our signature event of the year. This year’s dinner, our sixth, will have a roses theme, and will feature Henschke’s 2010 ‘Hill of Roses’ Shiraz which, as you probably know, is made from shiraz vines growing in the Hill of Grace vineyard that were taken as cuttings from some of the old ‘grandfather’ vines around 30 years ago as a means of securing the longevity of the vineyard. It’s a unique, hard-to-get, wonderful wine, and will be served with five other red and white wines from the Henschke cellar. There’ll also be an options game wine to test your vinous skills.
Chef has devised a bespoke menu to complement the wines, finishing with some cheese with which the Hill of Roses will be served.
Our dinners are always a lot of fun, as they provide an opportunity for members and their guests to glam it up a bit as Christmas approaches, and enjoy good food and Henschke wines in the unique ambience of the Club’s Macquarie Room.
The all-inclusive price per head is $175.
